Red Cup Rebellion - Ole Miss Rebel Baseball takes on the Auburn Tigers at Swayze FieldChanging the culture of Ole Miss Rebel athletics since 2008.https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/community_logos/51401/rcr-fav.png2014-04-05T09:14:28-04:00http://www.redcuprebellion.com/rss/stream/53484492014-04-05T09:14:28-04:002014-04-05T09:14:28-04:00Highlights of a Strange 8-5 Walkoff Win

I can't say I've ever seen a home run quite like that before.

These Rebels still have some fight in them. After being down by three runs for much of the game, they rallied in the eighth to tie the contest at five. Several extra innings and departed fans later (they were all leaving to see Nelly performin the Grove, obviously), Austin Anderson cranked a three-run shot into the visitor's bullpen to seal the 8-5 victory.

The home run itself though came under pretty unique circumstances, and by that I mean that I don't think I've ever seen a home run, let alone a base hit come from a batter who is being intentionally walked. If you missed it, here's how it went down:

With the game tied at 5 in the bottom of the 13th, the Rebs had runners on second and third with one out.

Auburn opts to walk Austin Anderson to force a double play.

The catcher motions outside to get the intentional ball, stands up, all that jazz.

The pitcher though, he just sorta floats the ball right over the plate. Not up and away by four or five feet as is customary, but just kinda tosses it right in Anderson's wheelhouse.

Anderson says "see y'all tomorrow," rips it, and wins it.

If you watch the highlights, you'll see that Anderson knew that the game was over as soon as he hit it. Even if it doens't go out, it scores a run on a sacrifice. I'm sure the fact that he goes down as a dinger for him, though, will be particularly sweet.

So today's games are a DOUBLE HEADER due to inclement weather in the region for most of the weekend. Here's to hoping the Rebs can get the series win, and here's to hoping that we see some of y'all out there today.

Let's not get swept again!

The Ole Miss baseball team is looking to bounce back from a stupendously horrible 0-4 week with a series win over the Auburn Tigers, who have been one of the more surprising SEC teams this season. The Rebs got off to a good start with a throttling of UAPB earlier in the week, but need to take advantage of the home stand to climb back into the conference standings.

They've shifted Saturday to a double header, so make sure to bring plenty of beer.

Drink and discuss.

The No. 16 Rebs return home after a disastrous week on the road.

This weekend the Rebels will see an uptick in the competition over UAPB when the Auburn Tigers come to Swayze. Auburn currently sits ahead of the Rebels in the division standings by a one half of a game. Auburn enters the weekend with an overall record of 19-11 and 5-4 in the SEC and, like the Rebels, have been somewhat of an enigma in conference play this season. They won two-of-three against Texas A&M and Tennessee, but lost two-of-three to Missouri.

The Tigers and Rebels have a lot of similarities, most notably of which is both team's batting average: a serviceable .299 overall. Auburn however does seem to show better patience at the plate than the Rebels, only striking out 1.33 times per walk. By contrast, the Rebels are striking out 2.1 times for every walk.

With this weekend being Grove Bowl weekend, we expect big crowds to help the Rebels win the series and get back on track after last weekend's disappointing performance in Tuscaloosa. If the Rebels have aspirations of hosting a regional this season then this weekend is critical. With trips to Starkville, Lexington and College Station looming on the schedule, the Rebels must take advantage of this challenge.

Our predictions:
Rebels win 2 of 3
Sikes Orvis goes yard twice
Chris Ellis pitches just four innings, but gets the win.
Red Cup wins 2, Blue Cup wins 1 and Yellow Cup continues to embarrass himself.
