With an a dramatic end to their season, the Ole Miss baseball Rebels are at home during the postseason for the second straight season after winning the National Championship.
Now that the risk for a cardiac event being removed from June baseball for Rebel fans, the Cup is here to help guide your rooting interests as you enjoy your cup of whatever you choose to drown yourself in this summer.
1.Arkansas Razorbacks (1 Seed)
The Razorbacks have one of the best pitching staffs in recent memory. On top of being a Regional Host site, the Arkansas was just recently voted the number one stadium in all of college baseball. Pitching gets it done in Omaha and the Razorbacks are the best at it. Arkansas will have to get through SEMO, Kansas State and Louisiana Tech to face the winner of the Virginia Regional, which includes Mississippi State.
2. South Carolina (2 Seed)
Why USC? Well it was the first SEC series the Rebels won this series, so why not root for the Gamecocks so the transitive property can kick in! South Carolina will have to stave off James Madison and Bryant on their way to upsetting host NC State before taking on the winner of the Athens Regional.
3. Georgia (1 Seed)
Speaking of Athens, Georgia has been a fun baseball team this season led by Charlie Condon who could go first overall in the MLB Draft this summer. Sure, the university and their fan base have enough championships recently, but Condon is a special player that is worth the watch. The Dawgs are hosting UNCW, Georgia Tech and Army. Tech has the offense to come out of the Regional so UGA better be on notice.
4. Kentucky (1 Seed)
Although they gave Ole Miss the business with a dominant sweep, Kentucky is worth rooting for this summer. Let’s just be real, baseball might now have their best chance to win a title after the departure of John Calipari. The Wildcats play host to Indiana State, Illinois and Western Michigan. Were they to survive, they would take on the winner of the Oregon State Regional.
5. Florida (3 seed)
The only 3 seed from the SEC is home to another elite player and future top 10 draft pick in Jac Caglianone. He is a two way stud that went 5-1 on the mound with a 4.35 ERA and hit 29 home runs, including a stretch in which he homered in nine straight games. The Gators head to Stillwater for matchups with Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Niagara before a potential series against the Clemson Regional winner.
6. Vanderbilt (2 seed)
Speaking of the Clemson regional, perennial power Vanderbilt heads east as a two seed. Coastal Carolina and High Point join the Commodores in their upset quest to advance. Not much more to say about Tim Corbin and crew besides, they aren’t the other teams listed below. Anchor Down!
7. Texas A&M (1 seed)
The biggest series win for the Rebels this year was against the Aggies. College Station will play host to Louisiana, Texas and Grambling. What a nightmare regional draw for a host team. The Ags will have their hands full trying to advance to a second round matchup against the UC Santa Barbara Regional.
8. Alabama (2 seed)
Another team that rolled into Oxford and annihilated the Rebels at Swayze. Their colors are ugly, their former coach was fixing games and wtf even is a crimson tide? Bama heads to Tallahassee to take on Florida State, UCF and Stetson. Solid chance the tide sets in Florida this year.
9. LSU (2 seed)
Our rivals swept us to end the regular season. Not cool. But the Bayou Bengals almost went on a run to win the SEC Tournament. That push likely bumped them to a two seed, but the Chapel Hill regional won’t be easy. While Wofford and LIU may not pose a threat, UNC is legit. For transparency, my father in law is a die hard Tiger fan and I can’t handle back to back seasons of LSU in Omaha.
10. Mississippi State (2 Seed)
Instead of enjoying their selection to the postseason, the Bulldogs took to social media to whine about not being selected as a host. Instead they head to Virginia with St. John and Penn. Let’s be honest, no one reading this article wants to see that school make it to Omaha.
11. Tennessee (1 Seed)
Whether its the obnoxiously loud orange or the even more obnoxious arrogance by the team, the Vols are simply unlikeable. Has anyone checked to see if they brought back the cheater bats this season? The top seed hosts Southern Miss (who we are rooting for), Indiana and Northern Kentucky. The winner of this regional matches up with the winner of the East Carolina Regional which includes a fun Wake Forest team.
