The Rebels beat North Carolina State 72-52 and looked like a real basketball team. Brakefield had 25 which is a career high. He had averaged 8 points per game so far this year. Only five Rebels scored, but four of them hit double digits which is one of Chris Beard's goals for the team. The team was 17-20 from the FT line.
The offense appeared to have a plan. They were patient. They were 7-20 from behind the arc. They rebounded pretty well. The defense had 9 blocks. NCSU had an off night shooting -- and that can't all be blamed on the Rebel defense. Sometimes you can't throw it in the ocean. The Wolfpack was 1-16 from the 3 in the second half.
The Rebels jumped out to a 17-5 lead -- NCSU cut it to 20-17, but they never got closer and the Rebels never trailed. This was part of the SEC/ACC challenge and after struggling against weak teams early in the year, the team looked good. Hats off to Chris Beard for showing improvement so soon. The Rebels won't be world beaters, but this gives me hope for some SEC wins.
