Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga. will host the Labor Day finale of week one of college football with the Rebels as nearly double digit favorites in the game. There has to be some amount of uncertainty for the betting world around how Ole Miss will perform without its offensive mastermind head coach, but offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby isn’t too shabby himself.
Undoubtedly, this game could serve as Matt Corral’s coming out party to the nation who may not yet know this young man’s name. While that may seem hard to believe, I think only die hard college football fans and/or SEC football fans are aware of Corral and his ability. This is a primetime, ESPN, massive exposure kind of football game for No. 2 to shine on a big stage. How he manages that will direct the rest of the team in my opinion.
The bigger question is if the Landshark D will regain any semblance of a FBS worthy defense in the second year of the Kiffin era. Transfers and freshmen have bolstered a beleaguered defensive unit who was among the worst in the country last season, but how much of a jump can fans expect?
Louisville has a dynamic quarterback itself in Malik Cunningham who has thrown for more than 5,000 yards and accounted for more than 60 touchdowns in his time with the Cards. The 6’1” junior from Montgomery, Ala. had issues last season with turning the ball over, so ball security will be paramount for Louisville’s success as an underdog.
We’ve all been poring over the stats for this game for months, it’s finally here. Let’s tee the dang thing up and play already. Hotty Toddy!
