Ole Miss baseball splits doubleheader with Arkansas, deciding game three for No. 1 ranking

A big rubber match at Swayze comin’.

Ole Miss started hot in both games of the doubleheader against Arkansas on Saturday, but two very different endings were the result.

The Rebels (24-7, 8-3 SEC) left the bases loaded on three separate occasions in game one, and the bullpen essentially imploded en route to a 7-3 loss to Arkansas (25-5, 8-3 SEC). Game two, however, went the way of Ole Miss as the Rebels opened up a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Arkansas is scrappy and always seems to claw back into games, but the Rebs held on for a 13-6 win after tacking on five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Here are the highlights from game two.

Game three on Sunday is, shall we say, big. Not only does it decide the current top spot in the SEC West, but it also likely determines who will be the No. 1 team in the country this week after Vanderbilt lost its series to Georgia. College baseball polls don’t really matter at this time of the season, but it’s always fun to have a “one” by your name.

First pitch in the rubber match is set for 1:30pm on SEC Network+. Head coach Mike Bianco just released the line-up for the final game of this crucial series.
