November 6th seems like a decade away with a much larger game against No. 18 Auburn looming in five days, but No. 10 Ole Miss was given its start time against Liberty today.
The Rebels (6-1, 3-1 SEC) and Flames will kickoff at 11am, which undoubtedly is a little disappointing for some fans. The people who enjoy the earliest possible kicks include: tired journalists who hate their jobs, anyone who has to drive more than one hour to Oxford, and every student forever.
Clearly, this game has some added juice from former head coach Hugh Freeze making his first return to Oxford since an NCAA fallout, personal scandal, and resignation. Freeze guided Ole Miss to a Sugar Bowl championship in the last decade, which admittedly was part of the appeal for head coach Lane Kiffin taking the position last year at the helm of the program.
I have few doubts there will be some mixed feelings when Freeze’s name is announced in Vaught-Hemingway that morning. There will definitely be some boo’s, and there will no doubt be a few cheers from Ole Miss faithful.
When it’s all said and done though, the Rebels have to drown out all the outside noise similar to what fans saw in Knoxville and go out to win.
Make your plans now for stocking up on bloody mary mix, mimosas and whatever else y’all like to sip on before noon. I have a feeling it’s going to be one interesting day.
