The Ole Miss Rebels (32-21, 15-12) are teetering on the edge of falling completely out of the host discuss after a Tuesday loss on the road to Arkansas State. As of now, they’re projected by both Baseball America and D1Baseball to be a two-seed in two different regionals. And if they want to try and sneak back in the discussion, they will need to get some wins this weekend in the Marble City.
But can they? What has this team shown us in the past week that they can pick themselves up and get it done? Yes, I know they sweep Texas A&M and Florida and won a road series in Red Stick for the first time in 37 years, but that feels like ages ago. In order for this team to be able to snag a host spot, they will need to win this series, point blank. And even then, they will most likely need a few wins in Hoover at the SEC Tournament, too.
That bring us to the other hot topic this weekend: Mike Bianco. The longest-tenured big three sport coach is certainly in hot water after an abysmal week where he got embarrassed at home against in-state rival Mississippi State and then blew a five-run lead on the road against the RPI No. 138 Red Wolves. Fans have been restless since last season’s early postseason exit in the Oxford regional at the hands of Tennessee Tech and honestly, I and others as well have been pointing to “one super regional in 10 years” a lot, too.
So there, win two games to keep yourself in the host discussion and/or help out your coach in order to possibly keep his gig at the head man at Swayze Field.
No pressure, right?

3 things to look for this weekend
Win game one.
You have to if you want to keep your head above water.
Win game two.
Do this and maybe you can sneak into a host spot.
Win game three.
If this happens, it might buy Mike Bianco some time.
