The Ole Miss Rebel baseball team is in Hattiesburg tonight for a game against the talented and scrappy Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
The Mustard Buzzards (29-13, 17-4 C-USA) got absolutely crushed in its last meeting with the Rebels 11-2 at Trustmark Park earlier this season. That win by Ole Miss (30-15, 13-8) puts the win streak at five over USM (thanks for jinxing everything).
Ole Miss should feel pretty unstoppable right now after a three game sweep over top 10 Texas A&M over the weekend in Oxford, but USM is a very capable club who took one of three from Mississippi State earlier this season in Starkville. Additionally, USM is on an eight game winning streak and sport an 18-4 record at home.
Zack Phillips will take the mound for the Rebels with his 4-2 record in mostly mid-week appearances. USM will counter with right hander (yeah, sure) Jarod Wright - a senior whose numbers may not jump out immediately - but has faced top level talent with success in the past. Wright hails from Arlington, Tenn. and earned a victory last season over MSU when he allowed only one run over nearly four innings of work.
Projected Starters
Ole Miss: LHP Zack Phillips — 4-2, 4.43 ERA, 40 K, 17 BB
Southern Miss: RHP Jarod Wright — 0-2, 6.05 ERA, 17 K, 14 BB
How to Watch
Um, well, tickets are like $8, and gas to get to Hattiesburg is probably an option for some of you. Grab a Ward’s Big One, a cold root beer and take in the sights and sounds of south Mississippi.
OR
There’s CUSA.tv — a webstream service that offers a 24-hour pass for $6.95 for the game. Watch it from the luxury or squalor of your own home for much cheaper. Plus you won’t have to worry about hearing eagle screams every time Southern Miss gets a walk or whatever.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CST.
