Ole Miss will welcome the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles into the pavilion Sunday at 5 p.m. for the final game of 2019.
The Rebels (8-3) and TTU (3-9) have very different trajectories for this season already with the Golden Eagles now being led by former Arkansas coach John Pelphrey. Since dropping a home game to Butler, Ole Miss is on a three game winning streak and sitting at No. 51 in the latest NET rankings from the NCAA.
TTU meanwhile is around No. 315 in the same NET rankings out of the 352 teams in Division I, so this game should be indicative of those rankings. This is the final game of the decade for an Ole Miss program piling up more than 200 wins in the last ten years, making it the most successful decade in program history.
The last time Ole Miss met TTU in basketball the Rebels won 86-77 behind 25 points from Bam Doyne in 2006. Overall, the Rebels lead the series 6-1.
Ole Miss has nearly four players averaging 10 points or more per game led by senior guard Breein Tyree with 17.8 points per game. In the last four games, transfer Khadim Sy has significantly picked up the pace and has put up 13 ppg in that stretch. On the flip side, TTU has only one player averaging over 10 points per game and are riding a three game losing streak.
Today’s game will also have a Y2K promotion taking fans down memory lane back to 1999 when we all thought the world was going to be like SkyNet taking over in Terminator 2. There’s $5 tickets available, and I guess like a bunch of bankers are going to run around updating code? Maybe there will be some interesting things on the jumbotron, but I really hope there’s nothing but music from 1999.
