The tune-up December that Ole Miss basketball needed turns to Jackson, Miss. and a game against Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m.
The Rebels (7-3) are on a two-game winning streak after dropping a home game against Top 25 Butler in Oxford earlier this month. SELA (3-7) have been on the struggle bus this season and dropped its last game to Lamar in overtime.
One thing stands out in this non-conference game, however, and it’s because it is in the capitol city of Jackson. Go to Keifer’s and get a fantastic gyro after the game, hit a bunch of potholes, revel in the running water miraculously working despite the best efforts of the city to neglect its maintenance.
Ok, enough hating on Jackson - it’s really important for a portion of our fanbase to have a game there at least once a year. Plus, this game should undoubtedly be a win. The Lions lost last season in the same building to Ole Miss by 22 points, and today could easily be a repeat (Rebels 18-0 all time vs. SELA).
Senior guard Breein Tyree went off for 34 in the last Ole Miss game against Middle Tennessee State. This put Tyree only six points shy of being 18th overall in career scoring, and 25 points shy of being 17th overall. So, watch for Tyree’s point total as he continues to cement his legacy as one of the better guards in program history.
If you’re looking to watch it on TV, you’ll need to have a streaming service set up through ESPN or SEC Network Plus. Tune in, wrap some last minute Christmas presents, and crack open a cold Busch Light, because you’re broke now after getting your boo that Gucci belt she wanted. Is that just me? Yeah, that’s just me.
The Rebels next game will be back in Oxford on Dec. 29 against Tennessee Tech before the calendar turns and Ole Miss has its final non-conference game against Wichita State on the road.
