The Ole Miss Rebel basketball team will open up the Pavilion for a fun, old fashioned family Christmas at 2pm and also play a little round all against coach Kermit Davis’ former employer.
Ole Miss (6-3) will face Middle Tennessee State (4-6) with the first 500 fans receiving a limited edition Cousin Eddie Christmas Vacation bomber hat. Let’s be honest here, the hat is the best part of this match-up.

The Blue Raiders are fairly well battle tested, having faced and lost to Villanova, Murray State, and Belmont, but it is unlikely an upset is in the works for today’s game. The Rebels are looking for its second win in a row after having a tough November going 5-3 with losses to Oklahoma State, Memphis, and Butler.
This is not assumed to be a game to help with the resumè come March Madness, but it is an opportunity to play as many players as possible. It also marks a stretch of games when students are done with the fall semester and away for about a month, so home court advantage may not be what it should be.
Ole Miss will want to build an early lead and continue to cycle in its newcomers as it has done in other non-conference wins like Western Michigan and Cal State Bakersfield. While some of these wins have not been 20-point blowouts, there have been valuable minutes of experience for players like Antavion Collum, Austin Crowley, and Sammy Hunter who will all have to factor into the season as it progresses.
Allowing the bench to grab minutes also gives needed breaks to senior Breein Tyree and junior Devontae Shuler who both averaged 30 minutes a game last year and are expected to do the same this year. Look for the Rebels to come out aggressive early on and then give its starters a breather.
And if you’re really in the Yuletide spirit, snag a hat for ya boi OMTB and he’ll venmo you or something.
