Kermit Davis came to Ole Miss wanting to bring a championship to Oxford, and today he’ll get that chance albeit an early season tournament championship.
Ole Miss will tangle with Oklahoma State in the NIT Season Tip-Off Championship game at 8:30pm. It is the first time these programs have faced each other since 1966, and the Rebels have never bested the Cowboys in basketball.
The Rebels hope to change that trend after a remarkable 21-point comeback against Penn State on Wednesday clinched its place in the championship. After scoring zero, zilch, nada, nothing in the first half, senior guard Breein Tyree dropped 18 points in the second half. The returning leading-scorer in the SEC will need to have a similar if not better effort against the undefeated Pokes to give Ole Miss a solid chance for a victory.
OSU seemingly breezed past Syracuse Wednesday, 86-72, and sit at 6-0 for the year. The Cowboys are led in scoring by Isaac Likekele and Yor Anei who combine for close to 27 points per game. Anei also leads the team in rebounds at more than seven per game. This is a balanced OSU attack that will give Ole Miss fits for all 40 minutes.
