NCAA Basketball: Memphis at Oregon Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday is a humongous opportunity for Ole Miss. Yes, the basketball team, the football team is on a bye. But, Kermit Davis and his bunch visit FedEx Forum to take on the No. 14-ranked Memphis Tigers and Penny Hardaway’s No. 1 recruiting class with a chance to not only shock the world but to add a bonafide top-50 NET win in November. Two things that would almost certainly announce the Rebels’ arrival in mainstream college basketball in 2019-2020.

Now, there’s an asterisk there with No. 1 overall player and projected No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NBA Draft James Wiseman and his eligibility. Will he play? Would Memphis risk it and play him in a big-time “rivalry” game?

We’ll find out this weekend.

Either way, Ole Miss has a chance this weekend to compete against a ranked opponent in a NBA arena with plenty of Memphis recruiting targets in attendance.
