Ole Miss basketball to host Iowa State in 2019 Big 12/SEC Challenge

Ole Miss will host the Iowa State Cyclones at the Pavilion in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge in 2019 — the program’s sixth consecutive season to participate.

Newly minted head coach Kermit “Tea Lizard” Davis has cobbled together a non-conference schedule featuring the likes of Baylor, Butler, Iowa State and George Mason/Cincinnati. The Rebs and ‘Clones have only played once in the vast history of Ole Miss basketball with ISU winning that game in the year 2000.

Ole Miss has not had a very good run in the SEC/Big 12 challenge, losing all five of its previous match-ups. The 2019 version could be a little different, however, as ISU was only 13-18 last season and will be on the road.

The remainder of the non-conference schedule has yet to come into a clear picture for Rebel basketball fans. It would not be shocking to see Davis’ former team Middle Tennessee State on the schedule, Illinois State is due a home game from the Rebels after they traveled to Oxford in 2017 and then there’s always the padding of seven or eight alsorans to be expected.

Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt are the only schools to play in every SEC/Big 12 Challenge since its inception in 2015. The SEC won last year’s challenge 6-4.
