Ole Miss baseball vs. Southern Miss 2018: Game time and preview

Rebs look to bounce back against the Mustard Buzzards tonight.

Ahhhh, the sights, smells, and sounds of Pearl’s prestigious Trustmark Park.

There’s the “really nice” Bass Pro Shops nearby!

You can eat at one of many chain restaurants like Arby’s (but we all know LB’s Meat Market has got the REAL meats)!

And for the lady in your life, a Michael Kors Outlet!

This is really the trip of the year, you guys. If you miss out on a trip to suburban Jackson, you’re really just trying to burst apart your family at the seams.

We got our beloved No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels (27-6, 7-5) and the pesky No. 13 Southern Miss Golden Eagles (22-9, 8-3) clashing in an eternal struggle for supremacy within the boundaries of our state. Did you know, Southern Miss swept Mississippi State earlier this year? And obviously they’re the second best team in the state per D1Baseball rankings.

Yep, this is the state baseball championship regardless of what anyone in maroon and white says (last weekend’s series is null and void shut up).

Tuesday night’s game will be a rematch* on the bump between Houston Roth and J.C. Keys - the Rebels toppled the Mustard Buzzards 7-6 in dramatic comeback fashion earlier this season. Keys was slapped around for three earned runs in four innings pitched as the Rebels climbed out of a 5-0 deficit.

*Roth has been a steadier hand of late, and he also provided key relief against USM in the previous win after Jordan Fowler logged his worst start of the season.

The Rebels will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing weekend that we won’t re-hash here. The tilt against Southern Miss is the only mid-week game before a three game series against Vanderbilt in Nashville.

Last season, Ole Miss needed 12 innings to get past USM with a 6-5 victory and they needed a dramatic comeback earlier this year to do it as well. If the Rebels can cinch up a win tonight, it will post a 2-0 record against USM for the second consecutive year and move to rebound after a disappointing weekend in Starkville.
