Ole Miss baseball hosts Eastern Illinois for final non-conference series

The Rebs returned home after a road series win over Long Beach State and took care of business against Austin Peay and Arkansas-Little Rock. No. 9 Ole Miss outscored the Governors and the Trojans 21-6 and the pitching was impressive per usual. Now, the good guys turn their attention to the 5-5 Panthers of Eastern Illinois.

And due to the threat of shitty weather on Saturday, Ole Miss has announced they will play a doubleheader on Friday. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. CST with the second game to follow 45 minutes or so after.

The Panthers come in hitting .266 as a team and will seemingly test the Rebel arms this weekend. Despite the overall record, I think this will be a sneaky good test for Mike Bianco and his club. EIU is a hard club to figure out, mind you. They lost two to ULM to start the year, swept Memphis right after, and then got swept by Georgia State. So your guess is as good as mine.

Hunter Morris leads the team with a .357 average, three home runs, and 12 RBI’s. Jimmy Huber (.333, 7 RBI), Joseph Duncan (.295, 6 RBI), and Dougie Parks (.293, 8 RBI) are the other names to know on offense. Alex Stevenson (1-1, 4.15 ERA) and Carson Haws (1-1, 5.40 ERA) are the known commodities on the mound and will likely start games one and two.
