Ole Miss baseball returns home for two midweek contests

Austin Peay and Arkansas Little-Rock come to Oxford.

GRAB THAT NATTY RACK AND RIDE.

Midweek action is here.

Game one of this midweek stretch is against the Austin Peay Governors with Houston Roth taking the mound for the Rebels. Roth-daddy got knocked around a little bit in the last week and elevated his earned run average to a 4.50 clip. He’s still rocking a 1-0 record though, and he’ll be looking to keep it pristine against the Governators of Clarksville.

The Peay Peays are 8-3 playing a relatively average schedule and losing to its most formidable foe Vanderbilt by 13 runs. They have proven to show some pop in their bats however slapping 10 dingers in 11 games.

The Rebels will face Governor pitcher Kyle Wilson who will be making his first start of the season, so everyone in right field please start the Facebook stalking, find his SnapChat and send him inappropriate messages or pictures or whatever that app does #dadinhis30s.

Ole Miss is undefeated in mid-week contests on the year at 2-0. Mike Bianco as head coach at Ole Miss has never lost to Austin Peay. Great scheduling. Also, there’s $1 hot dogs, so bring your thicc band of George Washingtons.

On Wednesday, the Rebels will hit the grass to play THE University of Arkansas-Little Rock — clearly the flagship school in the state. The Trojans are 6-6 on the year, but it includes a win over Oklahoma State and the pesky Northwestern State Demons.

Jordan Fowler will take the mound for Ole Miss Wednesday - his first start of the year. Fowler is sitting at 2-0 with a 2.70 earned run average in three appearances with a sparkling .154 batting average against.

As a team, UALR is batting .290 against some less than stellar opposition, and their team earned run average is hovering around the 5.00 mark. If the Rebels can get a solid start from Fowler, it may be all they need to cap off a victory.

Currently, the Rebels sit at 10-1 in 2018 with three series wins under its belt. There is a noticeable lull in the schedule for this week with Austin Peay, UALR and then Eastern Illinois this week.

It’s built this way in my opinion to offer some potential to grab a 5-0 week in case the previous three weekend series didn’t go as planned. Obviously, they largely went as planned, so Ole Miss now as the opportunity to stack up wins toward its goal of a postseason.

Grae Kessinger has led the Rebels most of the way this season from the leadoff spot starting in every game and sporting a Tony Gwynn-like .396 batting average. Nick Fortes and Ryan Olenek are the other two Rebels to start every game this year and also hit over .300.

The rumor mill is churning that Tim Rowe may be available in the next week potentially. The senior from Hernando, Miss. hasn’t played much since the opening series against Winthrop and has been on the mend.

The weather is supposedly going to be wonderful, windy, and also there’s $1 hot dogs and you can throw beers in the air. Be there or be nowhere.
