The LEGAL college football betting guide: Week 6

Can Notre Dame and Virginia Tech reach the over?

NCAA Football: Middle Tennessee at Georgia
When the Dawgs and ‘Dores hit the OVER.
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

On Aug. 1, 2018, betting on sports became legal in Mississippi. Federal and state law Now protect your God-given right to drive to Biloxi and blow hard-earned money on the over/under of some Tuesday night MAC game. To help guide you through the first season of legal college football gambling (because you certainly weren’t taking advantage of gray-area internet gambling sites before!), we’ve set up this weekly betting guide.

Utah at Stanford

Bet the Cardinal to win (-210)

Road game for the Utes who haven’t beaten anyone of consequence so far this season, losing by four to Washington State and by two touchdowns to Washington. Stanford is still a very sound, very talented team despite their three touchdown loss to Notre Dame last week. I’d be placing $420 on this one to win $200, because it should be easy money. David Shaw continues to be one of the most respected coaches for ya boi, OMTB.

Vanderbilt at Georgia

Bet the OVER at 52 points

Vandy is not very good this year and needed every minute last week to squeak by Tennessee State. Georgia has had its offensive struggles this season, though the point totals don’t tell that story. Special teams and defense are producing points for the Dawgs in bunches, and last week, Georgia’s first touchdown came from its own quarterback fumbling and its tight end returning that fumble for a TD — just like they drew it up.

So why is this an over? Because Vandy is going to score 10-14 points one way or another, as Derek Mason knows this season has got to turn around soon or it will be his worst yet. Kirby Smart has to hear the grumblings of a fanbase that has high expectations after a national runner up finish in 2017 — he’s going to try and get to 40 or more and show some competency.

Notre Dame at Virginia Tech

Bet the UNDER at 57 points

Virginia Tech had a mind-numbingly insane loss to Old Dominion that will taint this season but got back on track with a 17-point win vs. previously undefeated Duke. Notre Dame has somehow become one of the hottest teams in the country after stomping through Stanford last week. In big games like this, Notre Dame seems to have a propensity to go a little more conservative, and I think the same is true for Virginia Tech. It could easily be a 28-24 kind of game with a lot of ball control in the mix.

Louisiana Monroe at Ole Miss

Bet the Warhawks to beat the spread at +23

DADGUM OMTB QUIT HATIN’ ON OUR REBS RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE. Look, I want Ole Miss to win every game by 50 until the end of time. ULM shouldn’t ever have a chance in a game like this, HOWEVER, they beat Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. They also lost by 30+ to Texas A&M and Georgia State. I think what I assume will be a lackluster crowd, plus soaring temperatures and defensive struggles are going to combine to make this game a 17-21 point win for the Rebels and fail to beat the spread.

So what did we get wrong? What bets do you think are can’t miss this week? Comment or tweet @RedCupRebellion with your picks.
