South Carolina at Ole Miss opens as a betting push, because who the hell knows

It’s been nine years, but FINALLY Ole Miss gets Cocky in Oxford.

NCAA Football: Tennessee at South Carolina Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss and South Carolina have played football against each other just 15 times. The Rebs hold a slight edge in this series (?), 8-7. The last time these teams played football against each other — which was 2009 — the Rebs failed hard in Columbia, 16-10, and Houston Nutt was on the Ole Miss sideline.

Ole Miss finished 9-4 that year with a win in the Cotton Bowl over Oklahoma State, but that record also contains a 4-4 SEC record, including that loss up there to South Carolina.

This brief history comes in the service of saying that nobody on this green earth knows what will transpire in Oxford this Saturday. OddsShark favors South Carolina by one point on the road at an SEC West opponent. The over/under is currently 65.5 points, which sure, whatever.

This game is a toss-up, as well it should be. Carolina is ... well ... um? ... capable? ... when they want to be? Ole Miss is night and day. Cocky’s defense is stronger than many give them credit for, and the run game can rip people apart on a good day.

If you’re betting this game — and you most definitely should not — bet the OVER at 65.5, because life should be a thrill.
