U.S. Army All American Bowl 2018: Ole Miss recruits to watch

Signee Matt Corral is going to try and snag a few while he’s in Texas at the all-star showcase.

Student Sports

Ole Miss was able to secure signatures from a couple four-stars in college football’s inaugural early signing period, and one will be on display in San Antonio. Elite 11 finalist and future Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral will be competing for the West this weekend and he will have a few teammates that he could possibly be working on.

This is the second of the major all-star games where more of the nation’s top prospects have gathered to do battle in front of a national television audience. And while Ole Miss just cracked the top 35 of 247Sports team rankings, there are still some big names that the Rebels will be watching this week in Texas.

Let’s take a quick look at how you can tune in, then dive into the players you should be watching come Jan. 6.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We will update this post throughout the week with videos and analysis.

Who to watch

4-star QB Matt Corral (Ole Miss signee)

The Ole Miss signee is enrolled and will participate in spring practice. But, before he does that, he will be in San Antonio competing and recruiting to try and put a nice big bow on the 2018 class for Matt Luke and Co. So far, he’s looked the part in practice in Texas showing out in passing skeleton drills as well as live scrimmages.

The No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the country won’t have any receivers to throw to that are on the Rebs’ radar, but he will certainly have a running back that’s on the roster that he would enjoy seeing in his backfield. And Ole Miss has a few signees who would like it, too.

4-star RB Harold Joiner

The Alabama native has been rather quiet this recruiting cycle, entertaining three main suitors: Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss. The jumbo running back from Mountain Brook is a load (6’3, 218-pounds) and would be a tremendous weapon in Phil Longo’s offense. He is the type who is a create your own blocker type runner who is a long-strider and can outrace the secondary after running over the linebacker.

He would also be a nightmare in the open field after getting his hands on a screen pass. Corral along with signee Jonathan Hess would very much like Joiner to come to Oxford with them.

4-star OL Tyrone Sampson

A relatively new name on the block, the former Syracuse commitment burst onto the Ole Miss scene recently when several 247Sports Crystal Ball picks went in for him to end up in Oxford. The 6’3, 295-pounder is a road grater, plain and simple. He’s got a damn attitude about him when he blocks and Ole Miss might’ve gotten a late present if he were to declare for the Rebs.

The Opening Alum will be almost certainly be hearing from Corral and could potentially be snapping him the football in Oxford if things go well this week in Texas. He’s slated to visit for the big Crootapalooza Weekend on the 26th and you have to think Jack Bicknell is in his ear about coming to replace Sean Rawlings and being the center for the future.
