Yes, Ole Miss beat LSU in a game played with bats and gloves this weekend. At about the same time that Mike Bianco’s baseball team lined into the final out of their series loss in Baton Rouge on Saturday, the softballers drilled a three-run, walk-off homer to sweep the Tigers out of Oxford.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh and final inning, Ole Miss managed to place a couple of one-out baserunners, setting the stage for pinch hitter Alyssa Gonzalez.
That blast, the fourth of the season for Gonzalez, clinched not only the Rebels’ first ever series sweep over LSU, but the program’s first ever sweep of any ranked opponent (the Tigers came into the weekend at No. 11).
“It’s huge for us as a team,” Gonzalez said after the game, “to me coming in as a freshman being able to make history for Ole Miss.”
Just turn on your volume and listen to the reaction from the team and the crowd as the ball leaves the yard.
