Four-star cornerback Chevin Calloway out of Bishop Dunne High in Dallas signed with Arkansas over Texas and Ole Miss in a Signing Day special that was televised live on ESPNU. The 5’10, 180-pound defensive back ranks 17th in the country at his position and No. 143 overall by 247Sports.
At the Under Armour All-American Bowl in December, Calloway announced that Arkansas, Texas, and Ole Miss were his three finalists. He had taken an official visit to Ole Miss earlier that month and told reporters that the he enjoyed the “family-oriented” environment in Oxford and described Hugh Freeze and cornerbacks coach Jason Jones as “great guys.”
During that same session with reporters, however, Calloway said that the NCAA investigation might be a deal-breaker for him. “I don’t really want to deal with it that much, which is why I didn’t just say they’re my top. That’s something I’m still thinking about.”
Ultimately, the NCAA investigation appears to have been a huge factor that turned Calloway off from Ole Miss, as it has with many other recruits this cycle.
