It’s that time of year again. The Khaki Bowl, played between two fanbases with supremely arcane wardrobe prerogatives. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, in a game with absolutely no conference heft on the line. As it should be.
Derek Mason’s outfit somehow, inexplicably is picked as 3.5-point underdogs to Ole Miss. This probably has to do with the Rebs’ ability to score and score quickly, while the Commodores apparently move slower than molasses in January. What’s especially jarring about that -3.5 Ole Miss advantage, though, are the discrepancies on defense, where Ole Miss has given up at least 21 points in every game they’ve played this season.
At any rate, it’s difficult to understand that 3.5-point line from two directions, really. Either this will be a low-scoring rock fight, or one team — probably Ole Miss is better equipped to do this — will run away from the other in the second half. It really doesn’t feel like there’s a third option here. Not with these two teams, and not in 2017.
