Three-star do-it-all athlete Kam White surprised the recruiting world last spring when he committed to Iowa State, spurning an impressive list of SEC offers that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Tennessee. The Mississippi Dandy Dozen prospect backed off that verbal pledge on Wednesday, however, announcing his decommitment on Twitter. That opens the door for Hugh Freeze, who’s been pursuing White—a high school teammate of longtime Rebel target Cam Akers—for some time.
Sources told The Clarion-Ledger that the Rebels are now the favorite to land White. His 247Sports Crystal Ball immediately shifted in the Rebels’ favor after his decommitment from the Cyclones.
White, who said in his tweet that he would announce his final decision on National Signing Day (Feb. 1), confirmed to The Clarion-Ledger that he’ll take an official visit to Ole Miss on Jan. 27. Freeze and new defensive coordinator Wesley McGriff traveled to visit White last week.

The 6’2, 203-pound White is listed under the ambiguous “athlete” classification, though he likely projects as an outside linebacker or safety at the next level. In Oxford, he could very well end up filling the hybrid Huskie role recently vacated by Tony Conner.
The Rebs offered a big fella from Alabama.
Khalil Keith might be under the radar at the moment but his measureables certainly aren’t. The 6’5, 280-pounder from Alpine, Ala. was offered by the Rebels on Wednesday and would certainly fill a need in the 2017 class. Keith is an athletic man in the trenches and could provide some depth on defense. After losing Isaac Gross and D.J. Jones, that is something that new defensive line coach Tray Scott would very much like. He currently holds offers from Baylor, Samford and South Alabama.

The Rebels are pushing hard for a Texas linebacker.
New linebackers coach Bradley Dale Peveto made the drive west to Texas to go in-home with three-star inside linebacker Mohamed Sanogo. This weekend, the 6’2, 239-pound prospect from Plano, Tex. will return the favor by trekking over to Ole Miss for an official visit. The former Houston commit will be joined in Oxford by Rebel signee Breon Dixon and current commit Josh Clarke, who I fully expect to do their part in ‘crootin Sanogo.
It’s worth nothing that Sanogo visited Starkville alongside Willie Gay last weekend and seemed to enjoy himself.
An Ole Miss commit got to meet his new defensive coordinator.
Three-star A.J. Harris committed to Ole Miss back in July, but that was when it was Dave Wommack’s defense. Now it belongs to The Crimedawg, who Harris got to meet alongside defensive backs coach Jason Jones on Wednesday during a home visit.

The 6’0, 190-pound safety from Madison, Ala. shocked the likes of Alabama, Florida State and Michigan when he spurned their offers and picked the Rebels last year. The No. 34 safety in the country is a tremendous athlete with track speed who is looking to follow in the footsteps of Trae Elston, another star from the Yellowhammer State.
