Ole Miss' upset bid against big, bad Oklahoma didn't go so well on Saturday afternoon. The Sooners, the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tourney, teed off and run-ruled the upstart Rebels on Day 2, sending them down to the losers bracket of the Norman regional. But Ole Miss managed to keep its first ever trip to the Big Dance going, riding another kick-ass outing from starting pitcher Madi Osias to knock off Wichita State in an elimination game in the night cap.
The good news: the Rebs get another shot at Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon.
The bad news: this being a double-elimination tourney, Ole Miss has to beat the Sooners twice in a row to advance to the super regionals.
If you're searching for a silver lining in Saturday's beatdown, it's that most of the damage was self-induced. Oklahoma scored seven of its nine runs during a sloppy second inning marred by four walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches... all with two outs.
But the Rebs managed to clean up those defensive mistakes later that night, blanking Wichita State 4-0 to stay alive. I'd give you a recap, but this video pretty much sums it up:
