Ole Miss OL Rod Taylor arrested for shoplifting ... but it might have been an accident

One source claims that this is because Taylor accidentally walked out of a grocery store with two bags of charcoal in the underneath basket of his shopping cart.

So Rod Taylor -- ya know, the guy Hugh Freeze is counting on to be the centerpiece of his offensive line in 2016 -- was arrested on Sunday for shoplifting, according to Daniel Paulling of The Clarion-Ledger.

This sounds very concerning, especially since Taylor's poor decisions have screwed this team over before. But check this out:

Taylor placed but failed to pay for two bags of charcoal in a basket underneath his shopping cart while going through a self-checkout line, a source said. The source added his understanding of the case was that Taylor did so by accident and would have to go to court and pay the amount, approximately $40, before the charges would be thrown out.

Oh. I've definitely almost done that like 20 times. In fact, it's pretty surprising that he was arrested for that. That has to happen all the time, right? Even if it was intentional, it's so easily explained away as an accident. Of course, we don't have all the details here and it's completely possible that Paulling's source is either wrong or trying to spin this.

Hugh Freeze said in a statement that his staff is "gathering facts on the matter, and if appropriate, we will address it accordingly with Rod internally."

Regardless, it's not a good look for a guy who's been in trouble before. Last off season, Taylor allegedly punched a wall during a locker room boxing match. He was supposed to be a starter, but was limited by a bum shoulder that lasted all season. He's currently sitting out spring practice because of surgery on that same shoulder.

Not only is he a likely starter at guard in 2016, but he's also a potential replacement for Laremy Tunsil at left tackle. Given what we know about this "crime," I don't expect this to have any impact on his availability come game time.
