After soundly defeating the Memphis Tigers to the tune of 7-0 at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night, the Ole Miss Rebels (27-10, 7-8) return to Swayze Field to take on the Murray State Racers (17-20, 6-9) on Wednesday.
James McArthur turned in yet another stellar midweek performance against Memphis, going a career-best seven scoreless innings and tying his career-best with seven strikeouts. Big Tex was lights out all night, mixing speeds, locations and working out of jams in the early-going before giving way to Brady Feigl for the final two frames. McArthur is now 5-0 and is sporting a 3.18 ERA. Is it time to give Jimmy Lone Star a shot at a weekend start? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The bats were quiet early on, with the exception of true freshman D.J. Miller collecting his first career RBI with a single in the second. But the Rebs got going in the later frames, pushing across four more with back-to-back dingers by Michael Fitzsimmons and Will Golsan. Colby Bortles also slapped him a dinger in the eighth inning.
Midweek games are vital for building confidence when it's lost after a tough series loss, and the Rebels needed it badly after a poor showing in Tuscaloosa.
Now Bianco and Co. face a surprisingly tough challenge in Murray State, which is hitting a whopping .323 as a team and average over eight runs per contest (though that stat might be a little skewed since they recently defeated Eastern Illinois 31-11. Yes, thirty-one). Murray is led by Adam Bauer (.386, 4 HR, 27 RBI) and Tyler Lawrence (.379, 6 HR, 46 RBI). Bauer leads the nation in runs scored (53) and triples (7) while Lawrence also leads the country in doubles with 19. The Rebs have won five straight against Murray State and are looking to make it six before turning their attention to the War Damn Eagle Plainsmen Tigers this weekend.
