We've already been over the fact that, historically, we shouldn't go overboard with Ole Miss' 17-1 record heading into conference play. In 2013, Mike Bianco's team started 18-1 before going 15-15 in the SEC and getting knocked out of someone else's regional by William & fucking Mary. In 2012 it was a 14-3 start followed by 14-16 in conference and an early trip home from the College Station regional.
There is, however, one key reason to think the Rebs will have better success sustaining momentum through conference play this time around: they caught some breaks with their East division scheduling. Florida and Vandy, ranked Nos. 1 and 2 respectively, are both off the schedule. Not that the schedule is easy—five of the current top 16 teams are on it—but it's a lot easier than it could have been.
Instead of opening their conference slate against a No. 1 ranked team like they've done the last two seasons, the Rebs get SEC play underway against 11-5 Tennessee this weekend.
We didn't have time to throw together our full preview this week, but here are the game times and such.
