UAB vs. Ole Miss baseball 2016: Preview and online streaming

The Rebels will embark on a five-game road trip this week and the first leg is in Birmingham against the UAB Blazers.

Another weekend and another sweep for Ole Miss. Their third in four weeks. And on top of the sweep of the Grambling Tigers, Ole Miss is now riding a 10-game winning streak. Mike Bianco's club will now hit the road for a five-game stretch in six days that will take them to Birmingham for a midweek series against the Blazers of UAB and then to Knoxville for the opening weekend of conference play against the Volunteers.

The Rebels will be looking to stay perfect in the midweek against the Blazers (6-9) from Conference USA and will also be looking to take the lead in the overall series which stands at 11-11 right now after UAB swept the Diamondbearz in a midweek series last year. The Blazers are led by two seniors at the dish, Griffin Gum and Evan Peterson. They lead the UAB offense with a .286 and .283 batting average, respectively. Gum has knocked in nine runs this season, while Peterson has driven in eight. Carter Pharis also has some pop (10 RBIs, 4 2B, 17 TB) despite only hitting at a .200 clip.

Although they do not swing it all that well (.223 team average), one of their midweek guys can sling it. The Tuesday starter, Adam Lamar, is 2-0 on the young season with a ridiculous 0.96 ERA through 18.2 innings. Poor competition or not, that's impressive. The Wednesday starter, Stephen Baggett, is basically the complete opposite of Lamar as he is rocking a 12.27 ERA and has allowed 10 ER in just 7.1 innings of work.

3 big questions for the midweek

1. Will we see continued improvement from James McArthur?

This will be the last midweek series of the year and it's looking more and more like Mr. McArthur is Bianco's guy. Despite the early troubles against Arkansas State and Memphis, the skipper has stuck by the freshman and a strong showing against SEMO was very encouraging. All the talent is there, it's just a matter of being consistent with his command and velocity. You would really like to see Big Tex have another good outing this week and the next against UT-Martin before seeing Memphis again and then an always dangerous Southern Miss squad.

2. Can the Rebs keep up this pace at the plate?

The team batting average has climbed to .283 and there are now six regular hitters over the .300 mark after a weekend of dingers and extra base hits. During the current 10-game winning streak, the Rebs are hitting .310 as a team and are now swinging it exceptionally well with runners on: .349 with runners in scoring position and .370 with the bases loaded. Most importantly, J.B. Woodman (.358), Colby Bortles (.346) and Tate Blackman (.333) are all starting to see it very well. Those three are imperative to long-term success for Ole Miss this season.

3. Have you fired your Bianco today?

Laugh it up. All jokes aside, the Director from Delaware is an embodiment of consistency and success. Bianco has the ninth most wins in SEC history and is Ole Miss' all-time wins leader. His overall record at Ole Miss is a staggering 600-352-1. He's also the active SEC wins leader, 20 ahead of Vanderbilt's Tim Corbin who is a machine and churns out first rounders like a damn factory. Throughout the years, folks have had their complaints about Bianco's style, myself included. But, the guy just continues to win. During his 15-year tenure in Oxford, the Rebs have been to five Super Regionals, one College World Series and have only missed the NCAA Tournament twice.
