2016 college baseball top 25 and RPI: Ole Miss climbs into the top 10

How bout that perfect 5-0 week, huh?

Josh McCoy/Ole Miss Athletics

There was a lot of talk about Ole Miss' weekend series against a bad Grambling State team having a negative impact on its national ranking, particularly in the RPI. But after sweeping what turned out to be a surprisingly competitive Tigers team, the Rebs have shot up across the board. They jumped up to No. 3 in the RPI and climbed into the top 10 at both D1 Baseball (No. 9) and Perfect Game (No. 10). Baseball America put them at No. 12.

That's just as much, if not more, about what happened outside of Oxford. Two top 10 teams, NC State and Oregon, lost series over the weekend that opened the door for Ole Miss to slide up. Oregon, by the way, was swept by Mississippi State, who finally showed why they began the season so highly ranked. The Dawgs climbed to No. 15 in all of the major poles.

Throw in unanimous No. 1 Florida, Vandy, A&M, LSU, South Carolina and Arkansas, and you have eight SEC teams scattered through the polls. That number will drop as teams start beating up on each other in conference play this weekend, but damn.
