Octavious Cooley to Ole Miss: 4-star TE sends his LOI to Oxford

A big-bodied but athletic receiving threat, Cooley could be the longterm replacement for Evan Engram.

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

Octavious Cooley has been committed to Ole Miss since December 31, 2014 and never publicly deviated from that. The letter of intent for the 6'3, 220-pound tight end, who also listed offers from Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, and others, has officially arrived in Oxford. He was a wanted recruit but knew he wanted to sign with Ole Miss.

Cooley is incredibly physical and much faster than you might imagine from a 220-pound player. He appears to have good hands (in his highlights, of course) and is great at picking up yards after the catch. Cooley is very likely to play the Evan Engram role at Ole Miss, and I think he'll be successful with that. He's just a physically dominant receiving threat who's too quick to be covered by a lot of linebackers and too big to be covered by many safeties.

Cooley is a very important piece to this signing class, with Ole Miss only having one receiving tight end on campus right now. With Engram entering his senior year, it's vital that the Rebels find a replacement. I think they have.

It's a shame Cooley goes unnoticed so often because the overall class is so good. I think he could be really special.
