National Signing Day is also slowly creeping closer and closer, and with it an opportunity for Ole Miss to ease the pain of a 5-7 campaign by signing a legit class. Five-star running back Cam Akers is not a bad place to start. Mississippi’s top prospect is making his announcement sooner than anticipated, meaning the course of this year’s recruiting class will be determined two days after Christmas.

We also take a look at Hugh Freeze’s recent hiring of former LSU defensive assistant Bradley Dale Peveto, who will be coaching linebackers and operating as a “defensive run game coordinator.” Peveto was part of a national championship team in 2007, served as head coach at Northwestern State for four years and was named the No. 4 recruiter in the country in 2016, though his chops as an Xs and Os coach have been questioned.
