College football rankings, Week 9: Ole Miss tumbles out of top 25 polls

Ole Miss is unranked for the first time since Nov. 23, 2013.

It feels like almost a week too late, but Ole Miss is officially unranked in both the Coaches and AP Top 25 polls, a first for Rebel football since Nov. 23, 2013. A 38-21 Week 8 loss to LSU has effectively consigned the Rebels' 2016 campaign to oblivion, and the mere thought of fighting back to .500 with Auburn and Texas A&M still on the schedule is liable to produce a deep sense of nausea in every Rebel football fan.

Speaking of Auburn, the Tigers climbed to No. 15 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, following a 56-3 shellacking of Arkansas that has many in CFB media tentatively accepting the fact that Gus Malzahn's men are for real this season. Whatever, Alabama's still gonna probably wax 'em in the Iron Bowl next month.

Week 9's poll is the last such ranking this season that doesn't reflect the official College Football Playoff projections. Ohio State surely recognizes the immediacy of that fact, having dropped from No. 2 to No. 6 after an insane upset at the hands of Penn State in Happy Valley. Washington nudged its way into the top four this week, and Louisville -- ever this season's stalking horse -- sits at No. 5. Undefeateds Boise State (No. 13) and Western Michigan (No. 20) should have much to talk about as the season lumbers into its final stretch, but anyone who sincerely mentions the word "snub" in reference to either team should probably go sit in the corner.

Below are the most recent AP Top 25, Coaches Poll and S&P+ rankings. If you care about such trivia.
