Ole Miss basketball gets an opportunity to do something it got pretty used to over the last three years: beat an unprepared and talent-deficient Rick Ray team. You remember ole Rick right? Ya know, the former Mississippi State hoops coach who got tossed out of Starkville last March after a three-year run that saw the Bulldogs go 37-60 and finish 12th, 14th and 11th in the SEC? Well now he's coaching an 0-8 SEMO team that's going up against the Rebs on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
To tell you that this Southeast Missouri team is winless through eight games honestly doesn't do justice to just how awful they are. They're getting beat by an average of 19 points per game. They rank 286th in the RPI. Their 54.2 points per game ranks 342nd out of 351 teams. They're shooting just 37 percent from the field (345th), 24 percent from three (349th) and 54 percent from the free throw line (351st). Trust me, we could stay at this for a while.
All that to say, Ole Miss is not gonna lose on the road in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Rebs could use the easy win considering the upcoming stretch of schedule: home against 7-1 Louisiana Tech, on the road in Memphis, then a bit of a break against mediocre Troy before jumping into SEC play in Lexington.
And oh yea, before we jump into the tune-in info, remember that time Rick got caught on camera yelling "fuck you" at Marshall? That was amusing.
