Texas offered a job to DaMarkus Lodge's high school coach

The 4-star wideout is thought to be an Ole Miss lean. Does this change things?

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Cedar Hill High School's Joey McGuire has been offered a job at the University of Texas as tight ends/special teams coach, according to David Collier of Rebel Sport Radio. It just so happens that McGuire is the high school coach of four-star wide receiver prospect DaMarkus Lodge.

Lodge has been considered by many as a heavy Ole Miss lean but this throws a wrench in the process. Lodge took a surprise visit to Austin last week, but was also in Oxford over the weekend for the big recruiting throwdown.

Despite Collier saying "it could be devastating for Ole Miss", snagging one of Freeze's top targets isn't that simple. The allure of replacing Laquon Treadwell as The Dude in the offense is very tantalizing to say the least.

Secondly, the idea of a package deal being possible with Texas A&M commit Kyler Murray -- a friend of Lodge's -- might be a tad bit far-fetched. The five-star signal-caller is thought by many to be a lock to be drafted in MLB's first-year player draft very, very early.

So the idea of him going to Texas with Murray or considering the Aggies again is more than likely very slim because of that whole Kevin Sumlin thing.

Whether this has any bearing on the recruitment of Lodge remains to be seen. But, Charlie Strong has definitely shown his cards before the river.
