Ole Miss recruiting 2015: The CeCe Jefferson sweepstakes continues

After the big-time visitor weekend, we are headed down the homestretch of crootin season.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Last weekend, Ole Miss hosted some of the best high school football prospects for their big visit weekend and many came away impressed. One of the most notable visitors was Mr. CeCe Jefferson. The five-star defensive lineman continued to build his strong bond with Hugh Freeze and position coach Chris Kiffin. Jefferson, along with his father and academic advisor, were in town for an unofficial visit (Jefferson's official was October 4th for a football game, not a big deal). Not only was Jefferson yucking it up with the coaching staff and other visitors, he brought along a fellow elite prospect with him.

Four-star outside linebacker Jeffery Holland came to take in Oxford for the first time. Rumored by many to be part of a package deal with Jefferson, the 6'2, 230-pound thumper from Jacksonville, Fla. shared his thoughts with the internet while he was in Oxford. He is rather new to the crootin landscape for the Rebels, but according to Ben Garrett of the OMSpirit, Holland has been trending more and more towards the Rebels and this weekend solidified that.

With Jefferson and Holland both in attendance together, package deal rumor or not, the two clearly enjoyed themselves with Coach Freeze. With big fish, comes big drama. And Hugh Freeze seems to thrive in these situations. Time will tell.

4-star DaMarkus Lodge mulling over Texas finalists, Rebels still in the lead

DaMarkus Lodge was also in Oxford last weekend and hanging with local celebrities. The four-star receiver has muddied the crootin waters a bit with recent visits to Texas A&M and Texas last week, but it still feels like the Rebels are in a good spot.

Despite the Rebels comfortable lead, the Longhorns are not going to go down without a fight. Colt Barber of Horns247 reports that seven coaches from Austin where in the halls of Cedar Hill High School to see Lodge on Monday. The burnt orange are trying to sway the 6'3, 190-pound receiver with the temptation of a proposed package deal with Texas A&M commit and five-star quarterback Kyler Murray.

Not to be forgotten, Lodge is good friends and former high school teammates with current Rebel Quincy Adeboyejo. It might be too little too late for the two Texas schools, but the allure of staying at home can always play a factor. Will it? We will all find out on Feb. 4th.

3-star Austrian Robinson enjoys visit to the South, still pondering future

Another huge visitor this past weekend, literally and figuratively, was defensive lineman Austrian Robinson. The mammoth defensive end brought his 6'6, 255-pound frame from New York all the way down to Mississippi for the first time and came away in awe after hanging out with his fellow croots and coach Chris Kiffin.

Despite Ole Miss getting the ole good visit bump after he left, he still remains firm with Maryland being his no. 1 school right now. But, that won't stop the Rebels from pursuing as they plan on being in his house before National Signing Day to give it one more go.

One recent development in Robinson's recruitment, he tweeted out that he will no longer be taking his visit to Ohio State this upcoming weekend. Looks like the young man from Harlem is down to the Terps and Rebs.

3-star Kevin Scott visiting Oxford, playing the waiting game

The Rebels are after another big name defensive lineman by the name of Kevin Scott. He is the defensive tackle we mentioned before who has exploded on the crootin scene of late. The 6'5, 280-pounder from California has been somewhat playing the wait and see game according to Alicia de Artola of ReignOfTroy.com with Southern Cal. The Trojans have some other prospects higher on their list and Scott has been on the outside looking in.

With that said, Scott will be in Oxford this weekend. Coach Kiffin and newly-appointed special teams coordinator and safeties coach Corey Batoon have already been out west to visit him and are hoping to seal the deal and snag a commitment. Batoon's West Coast connections are already paying dividends early as Scott is an intriguing prospect with incredible upside who is wanted by many.

With Miami (FL) believed to be in the lead after Scott officially visited Coral Gables last weekend, Ole Miss will vie for his signature this weekend and will pull out all the stops as they covet the rising star.
