Memphis Offensive Tackle Drew Richmond Commits to Ole Miss

Ole Miss has to sign offensive tackles in this class. There are major depth problems there, and they need to get better quickly. In comes Drew Richmond.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

In what amounts to absolutely huge news for the future of the Rebel offensive line, prospect Drew Richmond announced his commitment to Ole Miss today. Richmond, an offensive tackle out of Memphis, is the #86 player nationally, the #7 offensive tackle, and the #1 player in Tennessee according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. By the same service, Richmond is ranked as a four star and chose the Rebels over offers from Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, and many others.

Richmond is from Memphis and plays for Memphis University School. Being an elite tackle at a small private school is pretty unfair as you can see in this highlight video.

Richmond is big (listed at 6'5" 320) and strong. He also has good feet. His legs keep moving when he's run blocking, and that's encouraging to see out of such a young player. Obviously, he'll face a major step up in competition level when he gets to college, but there's enough there for many, many fantastic schools to offer him.

The Rebels will have to work all the way until signing day, but this commitment is tremendous. Richmond joins Eric Swinney as the only two top 100 commitments to the Rebels in the 2015 class, but I imagine we'll see more (be it one, two, or three) before signing day.
