Ole Miss is ranked No. 11 and will host No. 3 Alabama this weekend. The campus will play host to ESPN's College Gameday for the first time in school history. Vaught-Hemingway Stadium will be beyond standing room only capacity and the town of Oxford is bound to host more visitors than it has ever seen.
And then, on top of all of that, this is happening:
5-star Callaway combo guard Malik Newman tells me he will be in Oxford this weekend for Ole Miss-Alabama.

This too is a pretty damn big deal.
If you've been living under a rock for a while, let me fill you in. Malik Newman is regarded as the top overall shooting guard in all of high school basketball for the class of 2015. He plays for Callaway High School in Jackson, represents the United States in FIBA U-17 tournaments, and projects to be a very swift one-and-done in college. Listed at 6'3" and 175 pounds, Newman can play everything from point guard to a small-ish wing at the next level. At Callaway, he has averaged 23 points and five rebounds for the past two seasons, and will undoubtedly improve on those numbers this year.
So, yeah, he's a phenomenal basketball prospect that could play for literally any program he wants to. He is considered either a Kentucky or Mississippi State lean (his father played for the Bulldogs in the 1990's), but he'll visit the Rebels this weekend to take in the biggest football weekend of the past decade in Oxford.
