Ole Miss Basketball Recruiting: Could the Rebels Land Five Star Center Skal Labissiere?

The Tennessee standout could be Andy Kennedy's biggest high school recruit yet.

Paul Abell-USA TODAY Sports

Skal Labissiere is a five-star power forward prospect out of Ridgley, Tennessee's Evangel Christian School who many recruiting analysts expect to wind up at Kentucky or Memphis (with a heavy lean to the Tigers).

But, earlier this week, there was some speculation that Andy Kennedy could be working on a pretty incredible recruiting coup, putting the Rebels in position to sign the 6'10" standout. Kennedy's ploy is simple: hire someone close to Labissiere, maybe even filling the final vacant position on his coaching staff in the process, to woo Skal to Oxford.

Per ESPN Radio's John Martin:

It just so happens Kennedy has an extra spot on his staff. It just so happens that spot has been left open throughout the July evaluation period. Is it crazy to think that Kennedy could go to Gerald Hamilton, Labissiere's guardian, or someone else close to him in exchange for his prized recruit? I don't think so.

This wouldn't be a particularly novel move - it's happened plenty of times before in both college basketball and football. It also wouldn't be against any sort of NCAA violation. So why not give it a shot? As you can see in Labissiere's highlights, the move is definitely worth it:

If Andy Kennedy somehow pulls this off, then this would be, by far, his biggest high school recruit yet. So it goes without saying that this is potentially a big damn deal.
