2014 NCAA College World Series: Ole Miss vs. Virginia in a Rematch of the Opening Round - RESURRECTED OPEN THREAD

The Rebels can get revenge and force a rubber match in Omaha.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

UPDATE: After a few gnarly storms flooded both the outfield and dugout of TD Ameritrade last night, the Rebels and Cavaliers are back in action today at 2:00 PM Central. The game will resume where it left off, in the top of the second with UVA batting with men on first and second. If Ole Miss is to win this game, then another elimination game will be played tomorrow.

The Rebs keep winning, so the Rebs keep playing.

After dispatching national seed TCU last night 6-4, the Ole Miss Rebels have earned a rematch with the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers tonight in Omaha, Nebraska at the College World Series. The Rebels will have to win to force a rubber match, the winner of which will face either Vanderbilt or Texas in the College World Series final. Vanderbilt, as the only undefeated team left in this side of the CWS bracket, must only win once to compete for the national championship.

First pitch is tonight at 7:00 PM Central on ESPN.

As Catfish noted earlier, Jeremy Massie will get the start against Virginia's Josh Sborz. Sborz is their Sunday guy, who boasts a 3.04 ERA whereas Massie is, as you're aware, typically used as a solid middle reliever for the Rebs. This one will therefore definitely be a pitch by committee type of night for Ole Miss. Hopefully if the Rebel bats can heat up as they did last night against TCU, the same could be the case for UVA.

And, remember, win or lose, this has been a hell of a season thus far. Obviously we want to see these guys play a few more baseball games, but we'd be remiss to neglect that they've been absolutely tremendous thus far. Or, at the very least, they've made this alumnus and bloggeur pretty damned proud.

Hotty Toddy!
