2014 NCAA College World Series: Ole Miss Rebels vs. TCU Horned Frogs in an Elimination Game, Preview and Open Thread

Once again, the Rebs are hanging on by a hair.

Tonight, it's once again a win-or-go-home situation for the Rebels, as they face the national seed TCU Horned Frogs for the right to stay in Omaha for another game. Tonight's winner will face College World Series favorites UVA, tomorrow and, if they win that game, on Saturday for a chance to play in the tournament finals.

Two nights ago, TCU put themselves in the losers bracket by falling to UVA 3-2 in a 15-inning contest. They will be the home team tonight against the Rebels, with their first pitch coming around 7:00 PM Central. The Horned Frogs will look to impressive freshman Tyler Alexander, who has an impressive 2.16 ERA, a .232 BAA, and a 0.97 WHIP. Throwing for Ole Miss is Sam "Thursday Thizzle" Smith, who admittedly hasn't put in the quality starts we grew accustomed to in the beginning of the year. Still, he's probably good for three our four innings, and can take command of his fast balls when he's on. He has a 3.45 ERA, a .287 BAA, and a 1.34 WHIP.

This tournament so far has been criticized for lacking offense by fans, coaches, and pundits alike. The great pitching, windy conditions, and dimensions of TD Ameritrade Park have rendered a series of games which have almost all been one-run decisions. That leads me to conclude that tonight's probably going to be no different, with Ole Miss and TCU battling it out until the final frame. Hopefully the Rebels can come out on top and get the chance to stay alive for at least one more game.

Hotty Toddy!
