Today at 3:00 PM Central, the Ole Miss Rebels and Arkansas Razorbacks will face off in the SEC Baseball Tournament in an elimination game. The winner of today's game will play LSU on Saturday.
The Rebels, who lost to Arkansas 2-1 in the tournament opener, impressed in a 7-2 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores yesterday afternoon. That bumped the Rebel RPI to 11, which is on the right side of the magical number of 12 for postseason national seed aspirations. To maintain that, the Rebs will simply have to keep winning.
Also to the Rebs' benefit are both Vandy and South Carolina having gone 0-2 in Hoover. The 'Dores and Cocks were both teams with similar national seed aspirations.
Future MLB prospect Tyler Beede took the mound on Thursday, but after several walks and hit batters, the Rebels broke through against Beede and Vandy, crusing to a 7-2 victory. Scheduled Rebel starter Christian Trent was scratched due to prolonged soreness in his arm, but the bullpen combo of Jeremy Massie, Aaron Greenwood and Josh Laxer held the Commodores in check.
That means that the Rebs should still have a pair of weekend starters to work with today and tomorrow, a luxury indeed in Hoover.
Here's what the offensive numbers are heading into today's game:

No, I don't know who they are pitching, nor do I know who the Rebels will pitch. We're guessing Christian Trent will take the bump for the Rebs after feeling stiffness yesterday, but it would also not surprise us to see Sam Smith get the nod. Once we know, we'll let you know, so stay tuned.
