Ole Miss baseball looks to get its quest for a national seed back on track this weekend as they host the Arkansas Razorbacks, a team struggling through a disappointing season that started with high hopes and has meandered through an inconsistent path of peaks and valleys.
On paper, the Rebs have the big advantage. They sit atop the SEC West tied with Alabama at 13-8, while the Hogs toil back in fifth at 10-11. As has been the case for a few seasons now, Dave Van Horn's team in Fayetteville struggles at the plate, where they're batting just .263 as a team (12th in the SEC). Ole Miss, on the other hand, has been knocking the cover off the ball most of the season and has the conference's second best average (.308) to prove it.
Must Read
The big equalizer, though, is the Razorbacks' pitching staff, which carries the conference's second best ERA at 2.28. If they can get some run support, watch out. Of course that won't be easy against the Rebel staff, which isn't far behind with a 2.48.
The Rebs need to take at least two this weekend if they hope to stay in the running for hosting a super regional in Oxford. The Razorbacks' RPI is all the way down at 56, and losing the series would easily knock Ole Miss out of the top 10 (they're currently No. 7 after the loss to Southern Miss).
As far as tuning in goes, Saturday and Sunday will be televised on FSN and CSS, respectively, as well as live streamed on ESPN3. You'll be able to watch Friday's game on Rebelvison.
