Demarco Cox, the graduating Ole Miss center from Yazoo City, will leave the Rebel program and transfer to Georgia Tech. According to ESPN's Jeff Goodman:
Georgia tech has added Ole Miss transfer Demarco Cox, source told ESPN. Can play this season.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) May 17, 2014
Due to Demarco's graduation and the NCAA's graduate transfer rules, Cox will be eligible to play this upcoming season for the Yellow Jackets.
For Georgia Tech, this could be a much needed boost for them on the departure of Yellow Jacket sophomore forward Robert Carter. Cox, who is listed as 6'9", 275 pounds, did not put up great numbers for the Rebs this season, in spite of his pretty hot start to the season, averaging just 16.6 minutes, 4.2 points, and 3.9 rebounds per game. Throughout his Rebel career, Cox was bothered by nagging foot injuries and routinely the subject of fan speculation - namely that he was either out of shape or more suited to play offensive tackle for the Rebel football team.
Regardless, best of luck to Demarco in Atlanta. We at the Cup thank him for his contributions to the basketball program, as well as his indirect contributions to the comments threads around these e-parts.
