After sweeping the Kentucky Wildcats and jumping up to as high as No. 10 in the college baseball polls, the Ole Miss Rebels return to the friendly confines of Swayze Field this Wednesday to take on a team that has been a real pain in the ass as of late: the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Earlier this season, USM handed the Rebels one of their 12 losses during a midweek contest at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
With the sweep of Kentucky, the Rebels have moved back into the regional hosting conversation and whisperings of a possible national seed. The Rebels come into the contest with an RPI of four. Southern Miss, with an RPI of 67, represents an opportunity at another top 100 RPI win. The remaining SEC series all represent top 100 opportunities as well, as does Arkansas State, so the Rebs have to just keep winning to maybe secure some national-seed talk.
With only 11 games remaining and the next seven at Swayze Field, the Rebels could seriously push for the 40 win mark on the season. USM has played plenty of SEC opponents this season, having lost to Florida, two-of-three to Missouri, MSU, and LSU while splitting with Alabama. Additionally, USM was swept by No. 2 UL-Lafayette this season.
At the plate, the Golden Eagles have struggled with no hitters above .300 and a .243 team average. USM is also averaging just over four runs/game, which means they will surely score at least eight against the Rebs tonight (amirite?)

Your pitching matchup tonight will be Ole Miss freshman Evan Anderson versus Southern Miss Junior Cameron Giannini. Anderson will be making his third start of the year, and boasts a 1-0 record with an 0.79 ERA. He was worked just over 11 innings in seven appearances, striking out eight with three walks and an opposing .114 average. Gianini has a 3-2 record and a 4.13 ERA. Over ten starts, he has struck out 39 and walked 21.
I won't predict anything, because I'm terrible at it. @Fit4LifeLLC says the Rebs win 6-3 and, with good measure, Red Cup smokes the competition. @smeargle predicts he'll get drunk.
Should be a blast, y'all.
