Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels take on Southern Miss in Pearl

An annual midweek classic takes place tonight in Pearl.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Rebels did what they needed to do this past weekend and improved to 21-4 and 4-2 in the SEC by sweeping Missouri (who might be the worst team in the conference - but we'll take it). Before taking on Alabama in Tuscaloosa, the Rebels will have to deal with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a mid week game at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The Golden Eagles are 12-12 on the season and Southern Miss, like Memphis, has given the Rebels trouble in recent memory in these mid week games.

Southern Miss has played three SEC teams this season (Alabama, Florida and Missouri) losing four of five, beating only Missouri once out of three in Colombia, Missouri. In other games of note, the Golden Eagles have beaten ULM and been swept by nationally ranked ULL. They have struggled at the plate this season as evidenced by their team .243 average and 2+ SO/BB ratio. However, the Rebels have not been lights out in the mid week games this year and usually Southern Miss is highly motivated to hand the Rebels a loss.
