Ole Miss vs. South Carolina baseball 2014 weekend open thread

SEC play begins with a trip to the nation's top team.

Welp, the good news is that after this weekend, we'll no longer have to rely on abstract comparisons based on non-conference competition to gauge how good this Ole Miss baseball team is. The bad news is that we're facing the undefeated No. 1 team in the country, South Carolina, on their home diamond.

The Gamecocks, as usual, are loaded, especially on the mound. All three of their weekend starters have a sub-2.00 ERA. During their spotless 16-0 start, they've recorded an absurd nine shutouts. For you English majors, that's over half of their games that they haven't allowed their opponent to so much as touch home plate.

Because of the Rebels' own pitching depth, I think we have a shot at keeping these games pretty close. I think Bianco and would be pleased with one win this weekend. Avoiding the sweep on the road against the top team in the nation on the opening weekend of conference play would be a pretty positive thing.

Due to impending inclement weather on Sunday, they've moved the third game up to Saturday, which means a double-header beginning at 3 p.m. CT. It's gonna be a long day of drinkin', folks.

As far as watching goes, ESPN3 will have the broadcast on Friday (you can either head over to WatchESPN.com or pick it up through your Rebelvision account). Before the double header was announced, the Saturday game was set to be broadcast on ESPN3 as well. I'm not sure yet if both Saturday games will be broadcast now or what. We'll keep ya updated.

UPDATE: Both Saturday games will be on ESPN3. Hell yes.
