Rebel Baseball Midweek Series Open Thread: Ole Miss vs. SELA Lions in Hammond

We got a late start here. And the game's in Hammond. Why?

These girls won't be there. Sorry.
These girls won't be there. Sorry.

Here's the skinny (courtesy of the usual suspect): SELA on the year is 9-5. They played LSU earlier in the year and lost 7-3. They have taken 2 of  3 from LA Tech and lost 2 of 3 to ULM, a team that the Rebels beat twice during that wacky string of four walk-off wins. So they, like the rest of our midweek games, aren't particularly remarkable.

This mid-week two game series falls before a big opening SEC weekend at top 5 South Carolina. That's some busch league scheduling. It will interesting to see how the Rebels handle the Lions on the road during spring break.

A closer look at the Lions shows they have some guys that put the ball in play and they will not doubt love the opportunity to take an SEC team at home.

Tonight's pitching matchup is righty Sean Kennel (1-1, 3.21 ERA) vs. Rebel righty Jeremy Massie (0-1, 2.61 ERA). Tomorrow's pitching matchups are to be determined.

UPDATES!

The Rebels beat the Lions in yet another nailbiter last night, eking out a 2-1 victory on a Preston Overbey single which drove Austin Anderson home in a bases loaded situation in the top of the fourth and a Sikes Orvis solo shot in the top of the sixth.

Yes, in case you were wondering, that was a bases loaded with no outs situation in which the Rebels only managed one run. We've seen that before.

Regardless, Jeremy Massie (1-1) and the Rebs got the win. Massie was particularly impressive, allowing just one run and three hits over the course of six innings. Hopefully we can see more out of him in midweek matchups to come. We do not know who will be pitching tonight, but once we do we'll maybe update this story or something.

ANOTHER UPDATE!

The Rebels sweep the Lions in the midweek series, wining 8-3 on Wednesday night. Cheyne Bickel got the win after giving up just one hit over two innings of work in relief. The Rebs took a 4-3 lead into the ninth, where they absolutely opened up on SELA, scoring four runs on the bats of Will Allen, Preston Overbey, and Brantley Bell.

So it's on to Carolina! We'll have a full preview up and running for you this Friday. Hotty Toddy!
