Well Rebel fans, it's time to raise your cups in celebration. You have made it through the barren wasteland commonly known as "summer." You have ground your teeth and squeezed the arm of your chair, watching nothing but Major League Baseball. You have glided your fingers across pictures of Vaught-Hemingway stadium, counting down the days until you can load up the car, slap on the decals, and head to Oxford. You have argued incessantly about nothing in particular on internet message boards. And although football is still 120 hours away, the Ole Miss Rebels have taken to the soccer field and walked away victorious. The 2013 Fall Athletics Calendar is upon us!

Last night, the Lady Rebs blew out the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette by a score of 4-0, earning their first victory of the season. Ole Miss is trying to improve on last year's 13-9 season that included a trip to the SEC Tournament and a first-round victory over LSU. Ole Miss fell just short of an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Ole Miss returns seniors Mandy McCalla and Rafaelle Souza, last year's SEC goal-scoring leaders. They also return junior goalkeeper Kelly McCormick and introduce an impressive class of freshmen, including Addie Forbus, Mississippi's high school record-holder for most goals scored ever (231). Forbus was the first to score last night, followed by a pair of goals from midfielder Jennifer Miller and a late goal from Mandy McCalla. Like any good Rebel, Addie Forbus threw up the landshark fin during her recruiting announcement, though she will need a bit of instruction to perfect it.

The Rebels return to action tomorrow, August 25th, when they face UAB in Alabama. Their next home game is Friday, August 30, against Northwestern State. A crowd of over 1,500 turned out for last night's game. If able, come support your Ole Miss Soccer team after an Ole Miss football victory next Thursday night!
