Phil Steele, the college football magazine writer who obsesses over the sport in a way that no other writer can, released his all-SEC team today on his blog. The Ole Miss Rebels who made the cut are:

  • Denzel Nkemdiche - First Team Linebacker
  • Donte Moncrief - Second Team Wideout
  • Aaron Morris - Third Team Guard
  • Robert Nkemdiche - Third Team Defensive Lineman
  • Jeff Scott - Fourth Team Runningback
  • Ja-Mes Logan - Fourth Team Tight End (and, yes, Steele recognizes that Logan is, in fact, a wideout)
  • CJ Johnson - Fourth Team Defensive Lineman
  • Mike Marry - Fourth Team Linebacker
  • Charles Sawyer - Fourth Team Cornerback
  • Jaylen Walton - Fourth Team Kick Returner

So that's one first teamer, one second teamer, two third teamers, and six guys on the fourth team. What's also interesting is Robert Nkemdiche making the third team defensive line over guys who have, you know, actually played a few seasons of SEC football. Also, as far as I can tell, he's the only freshman on the list.

I do feel that Steele does routinely overrate our Rebels, or perhaps we're just perpetual underachievers in his eyes, but it is good to see him recognizing the potential of Robert Nkemdiche as well as the production of guys like C.J. Johnson, Mike Marry, Ja-Mes Logan, and other players who have been great for our Rebel squad with little national recognition to show for it.
